SKOOL BEANZ
Children’s Gardening Club Map & Leaflet
Illustrated Map of the Skool Beanz Allotment
“If we teach children how to create a thriving garden, not only will it improve their physical and mental wellbeing, it will benefit our precious wildlife . . . Teaching children how to sow seeds, grow fruit and veg, harvest, store and prepare food they have grown, are skills they will keep forever. ”
Skool Beanz CIC, founded by Lara Honnor, is a children's gardening club based in Chilthorn Domer Village, in South Somerset. Designed to spark a love and understanding of gardening and food growing in young people. The Skool Beanz allotment is a vibrant space, featuring a stunning dahlia bed, a thriving vegetable patch, fruit trees and bushes, a rainwater collection station, and the ‘Muddy Buddy’ compost heap. It’s the perfect blend of learning, creativity, and outdoor fun! Lara runs the garden all year round, as a club for the local primary school, and after school clubs.
Lara wanted to create a fun, playful map and leaflet to reflect the allotment and gardening club to share at their NGS Open Garden event.
Designed to be used by children and adults, with a colouring-in page showing some of the plant and wildlife species found in the garden. The color palette was inspired by the garden, drawing from the painted elements, flowers and veg found in the allotment.
Commissioned by Lara Honnor at Skool Beanz in Chilthorn Domer, Somerset. For the NGS Open Garden event.
