THE OLD VIC THEATRE
Community Window Display
I’m excited to share the illustrated window designs I created for the Open Day of the Backstage Building, part of The Old Vic Theatre in London!
This vibrant new space is home to the Old Vic’s education and community programmes, as well as a beautiful cafe, restaurant and bar. The space brings together people of all ages, from local community groups to emerging theatre professionals and school students, offering creative opportunities that build skills, confidence, wellbeing, and connection.
My illustration was created to reflect this sense of openness, energy and inclusivity. The space brings together everything from workshops and training opportunities to community gatherings, so the artwork needed to capture a real mix of creativity and activity. A key element of the design was an audience-engagement feature: visitors were invited to share words about what The Old Vic means to them, and these sentiments were woven directly into the illustration, celebrating the connections the theatre continues to nurture.

The Old Vic, The Cut, London SE1 8NB
The Old Vic is a 207-year-old theatre in the heart of Waterloo, and as a charity, its purpose is to enable anyone to experience, make and benefit from theatre.
Since 2015, their programmes have reached tens of thousands of people, across schools, communities and emerging theatre professionals, positively impacting life and employability skills, building confidence and connection, and opening up supported pathways into the industry.
All programmes are offered free of charge, and the Backstage Building is designed to welcome people aged 6 to 100+, particularly those who may face barriers to accessing theatre.
